Much has been written about this, and of course everything is valid, in your hand is drawing your own conclusions. To appreciate a orart it is not necessary to be an understanding, we do not need historical knowledge, of technique, composition etc... art it is universal is united to our soul and to our heart, how capable we are to let ourselves be wrapped. I propose you both open up and let yourself be carried away by your instinct and a little less by your brain.
If you listen to Rimsky Korsakov, or Metallica, for example, this artistic language is recognized. You may not share that taste, or have doubts about the message, but still you can see that talent that goes beyond, the art that exists in its pieces. As in any artistic discipline in the paint It happens, too. It is difficult to define it because before your mind can explain in words why that beauty, your heart has already realized. It's that more visceral part I appeal to, and that I encourage you to give out. Later, if we want to deepen the following steps, we will look at the elements that shape a picture, line, drawing, technique, theme, pictorial current... Obviously the written information we have next to a picture in an exhibition helps us to position and is useful. From there you can better understand the motive it represents, look for the relationship between the title and the image. The story of that moment in which it was painted, as the life of the painter himself explains also part of it.
If we drink a wine, we look at the label, which type of grape predominates, designation of origin, year... but in the end, what does it matter more, smell it, taste it, enjoy it or the above data? In my humble opinion, look at a painting in order to enjoy it and if you do it already later you want to learn more, have more information around it. It can also happen the opposite obviously, that when they explain the meaning, the details, of that painting, they awaken your curiosity and set you more, it is true, but in the end I recommend you go through the picture and look at the details for yourself and let you soak for it. Looking at a picture from a more objective, descriptive, technical point of view comes later, I repeat, from my opinion.
Also tell you that according to what type of works it is easier to move us, because then, choose that type of exhibitions to enter into that world of the artistic painting.
And how do you enjoy a work? enter you, fix you the colors, the forms that have been used, that produce you, that happens to you, that causes you. Many times we try to figure out what the painter wanted to say with all that, we can either get it right or not, but what is true is your feelings.
Then I show you a picture of one of my favorite painters. It's an incredibly beautiful, exciting job. The roses of the Heliogábalo of Alma Tadema (1888). The painting represents the scene in which Heliogábalo Emperor of Rome had a surprise to throw an excessive amount of rose petals over the guests.
As I was saying, it's not necessary to understand this man's incredible talent.
